More Technology in the Classroom

PAC-funded iPod Touches are now being shared between classrooms.  These 35 handheld units are housed in a locking mobile charging cart that teachers are checking out by reserving them on a digital calendar.  After gathering a wishlist from Edy Ridge teachers, the District's Technology team loaded the iPods with our literacy programs stories and apps to support classroom instruction.  Since 2009, we've had 60 units that were shared by first grade teachers and by two other early adopters (Rachel Brown Peck, Beth Travnicek).  PAC's investment came after Edy Ridge families helped our 2012 Fun Run exce our goal by $10,000.  In one fifth grade classroom, students used the iPods to record and track their oral reading fluency, as well as to use a fun pizza app to support fractions instruction.  As you can imagine, 100% of the students were on-task and engaged in the learning.
