Kindergarten in 2015-16

posted Apr 3, 2015, 5:09 PM by Frank Luzaich

Sherwood Schools have offered quality tuition-based full-day programs since 2004, and we've been looking forward to expanding this opportunity to all our children next fall.

Kindergarten is designed to enhance and build upon each student’s strengths while encouraging positive attitudes toward learning, self, and school. Children will be busy exploring reading, writing, math, social studies, scientific inquiry, music, and art. Their day will be filled with work and play intended to foster listening, speaking, and social skills. A pillar of our program is “the power of productive struggle.” To this end, students will be challenged and nurtured along the way as they begin their school experience.

Kindergartners begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:15 p.m. Their day parallels students in grades 1-5; with lunch, recess, assemblies, field trips, and afternoon Music, PE, and Library/Media classes. Kindergartners who live outside the “walk zones” will receive regular District bus services to and from school.

Families wishing to opt for an early pick-up should notify the school when registering their child. Early pick-up students attend from 8:00 a.m. until kindergarten lunch begins. There will not be a mid-day bus service, so early pick-up families will be responsible for picking up their child at the designated morning dismissal time.
